Stubborn Mule Travel have just launched a new family trip to Zimbabwe.
This is an incredible destination to visit with some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa, but without any of the tourist hordes. Stay in a secluded lodge on a remote corner of Lake Kariba and take boat rides in search of the elephant that come to drink at the shore, and the crocodiles that lie in the shallow waters waiting to pounce on unsuspecting game. Revel in the solitude of Great Zimbabwe, surely one of the least visited UNESCO World Heritage sites, where there is no-one to keep you company except for a few playful baboons. Go rhino tracking in Matobo Hills and take nature walks through the beautiful landscape, searching for Bushman paintings that date back 50,000 years.
Add Victoria Falls into the mix, with time spent viewing the waterfall as well as trying your hand at one of the many adventure activities in the area, and you could just have your perfect trip!
Zimbabwe has been off radar for some time but is slowly re-emerging as the African safari destination of choice for those in the know. With this in mind, Stubborn Mule Travel have been quick off the mark in putting together an itinerary for intrepid families to explore this beautiful country.
The tour starts at Victoria Falls, surely one of the world's most incredible sights, a massive and thundering cascade of water that throws spray into the world for miles around. Admire the falls from various different view points and then take part in some of the adventurous activities on offer here. If you dare, take a zip wire over the Zambezi or go white water rafting in the roiling waters below the falls.
From here continue to Hwange National Park, one of Zimbabwe's highlights with a huge range of animals including one of the largest elephant popluations in Africa. Travellers will also join the team at the Painted Dog Conservation Group for a day spent tracking this endangered species. How is that for a story to tell the friends back at school?!
Then there's Lake Kariba, its shores teeming with wildlife and huge crocodiles lurking in the shallows waiting to pounce on the game that come to the shore to drink. Here you can stay in a peaceful lodge with incredible sunset views over the lake (what better place for an ice cold beer?) and spend your days out on a boat on the lake.
The trip ends up with a couple of days in the stunning Matobo Hills National Park, a rugged and varied landscape that is home to breeding groups of black and white rhino as well as a great variety of other game. Here travellers should also keep their eyes peeled for bushmen paintings daubed on the cliff face that date back tens of thousands of years.
The price is £2,150 for a two week tour based on a family of 4 travelling. Price includes international flights into Vic Falls and out of Bulawayo, accommodation, excursions, most meals, entrance fees and activities.
