Here's a chance to own a credit-busting two-door electric car at World Travel Market in London, worth 12,294, donated by The Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions (NBTC) and Den Haag Marketing.
The striking, bright orange fun car, up for sale on an eBay-style auction, will raise desperately needed funds for industry water-aid charity, Just a Drop. The auction will climax during WTM at ExCel London (Monday 10-Thursday 13 November)..
"Green issues have never been more fashionable - or more vital", said Fiona Jeffery, founder and chairman of Just a Drop. "This car is perfect for city living. It's quick, quiet and, above all, saves money. Just plug it in to any domestic electricity socket or a public charge point and enjoy bargain motoring at around 1.5p per mile!"
Bids for the car can be made prior to WTM by logging on to www.holland.com/win-a-car and during the event at the Holland Meeting Point (EM4000). Bidding closes on Wednesday 12 November at 5.00pm. The highest bid will win the car.
Andrew van der Feltz, Director UK & Ireland, Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions said that the initiative was an excellent match." Holland boasts several sustainability initiatives which not only benefit the general eco-climate, but have a huge impact on tourism and the future of tourism", he said.
"Well established tourism related initiatives are the quality systems TheGreenKey and TheBlueFlag. TheGreenKey is a diploma awarded to companies within tourism: hotels, youth hostels, conference - and holiday centres, campsites, holiday houses, leisure facilities and restaurants. To obtain TheGreenKey companies have to fulfil a long list of environmental requirements.
"There are a number of criteria. Other than pure environmental demands, the requirements include demands on policy and action plans. A total of 200 out of the 450 European properties that are part of TheGreenKey are located in Holland."
He explained that The Hague is a prime example of the Dutch initiatives with a third of its surface area being green space, 400 hectares of forest and more than 70,000 trees lining the streets. Its green credentials go much further with an ambitious plan to make the city CO2 neutral by 2050. "Numerous innovative projects have been launched, striking a balance between economic, social, health and environmental interests."
Jeffery, appealing to World Travel Market exhibitors to follow the Netherlands example and create their own enterprising promotion in aid of Just a Drop, explained that the auction money will help stop the terrible toil of infant death because of dirty water.
"Just a Drop trustees have to disappoint worthy applicants because we do not have sufficient funds to cover the work", added Jeffery. "This is particularly the case in some of the more remote parts of the world, where other charities are unable to help."
"We cannot thank the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions enough for their brilliant work in supporting Just a Drop over the past five years."
