Taking a well-earned break from global affairs, British journalist Jonathan Freedland clearly made the right choice when he holidayed in Nelson Tasman. Headlined 'The most beautiful coast in the world?', Freedland's Guardian piece lauded Abel Tasman National Park alongside other highlights such as cycle trails, beaches, Māori culture, food, art studios and galleries. 'Like anyone who spends a few days in Nelson Tasman,' says Freedland, 'visitors will find themselves itching to scrap whatever further travel plans they'd made – and stay a little longer.' Freeland is in good company, with this region rated the favourite destination of New Zealand holidaymakers who come for good times and great weather in all four seasons. Hosting visitors comes naturally to the locals who love the lifestyle here. Big into the outdoors, they're known for leaving work at 4pm to hike, bike or take to the water, or just walk the dog along beautiful Tāhunanui Beach. Nelson Tasman is a mecca for mountain biking, enjoyed by a whopping 3000 members of the local MTB club all year round. One of only six international gold-rated riding destinations, it has hundreds of kilometres of trail close to downtown Nelson and other hubs. The fertile, sun-kissed plains and bountiful ocean keep everyday dining delicious and fresh. Fantastic restaurants, café, bars and markets just love showcasing some of New Zealand's finest flavours including top produce, craft beer brewed from local hops, and boutique wines straight from the vineyard. Getting around is easy thanks to the 200km Great Taste Trail network and other off-road pathways, plus short driving distances and convenient public eBus services. Nelson also enjoys excellent aviation connections through the busiest regional airport in the country. With so many natural advantages when it comes to good living, it's no wonder Nelson Tasman is such a great place to visit.
