NCL's newest purpose-built Freestyle Cruising ships to be delivered in 2007
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has today announced the names of its two newest ships: Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Gem, due to be delivered in February 2007 and October 2007 respectively. These ships will complete the delivery of seven new ships in seven years. Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Gem are both in the same class as the impressive Norwegian Jewel, which was launched last August in Dover, and which will be returning to Europe in May 2006 and offer 7 and 12-night cruises in the Med.
Currently under construction at Meyer Werft in Germany, both the new ships will feature all the attributes of NCL's unique modern Freestyle Cruising fleet with up to ten restaurants and family-friendly accommodation including the popular Courtyard Villas. These ships will offer the biggest, most luxurious suite complexes at sea.
Francis Riley, General Manager of NCL in the UK, commented, "Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Gem will be the ninth and the tenth new ships to join the NCL fleet since the fleet modernisation began in late 1999. Once Norwegian Gem is delivered in late 2007, over 80% of NCL's capacity will be brand new and highly contemporary, keeping NCL on track to offer the youngest fleet in the industry by 2010."
Further details concerning the ships' itineraries and their distinctive hull artwork will be announced in the near future.
