National Museum of African American Music

The National Museum of African American Music in Nashville - www.nmaam.org – has confirmed that it will open on 3 September 2020 to coincide with Labor weekend in the USA. The museum will be the first dedicated to the multiple dimensions of African American music in the world.

The museum which has been in development for over 20 years will be the anchor tenant at the new Fifth + Broadway development – www.fifthandb.com which is due to open in 2021.  Fifth + Broadway will be the largest mixed-use development in the region and will include retail, residential and office spaces right at the centre of downtown Nashville on historic Broadway.

When the museum opens guests will be immersed in generations of musical history created and inspired by the work of African Americans. NMAAM features seven content galleries, six permanent and one rotating, that chronicle the traditions from the 1600’s to present day. More than 50 genres and sub-genres of American music will be explored from spirituals and gospel, jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B and more.

NMAAM will also have a state-of-the-art performance hall that will screen films, lectures and stage concerts from local and international artists.  There will also be a café and shop.
