Nahm at Metropolitan by COMO, Bangkok, Scoops Award For Best Restaurant in Asia

Como Hotels & Resorts

nahm, the restaurant from acclaimed chef David Thompson, has been voted the number one restaurant in Asia in the 2014 50 Best Restaurants List from San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.

Last year, nahm, situated on the ground floor at the iconic Metropolitan Bangkok by COMO was topped only by two of Tokyo’s most internationally revered restaurants, Narisawa and Nihonryori RyuGin. This year, nahm overtook Narisawa and fellow Bangkok restaurant, Gaggan, to top the list.

Chef David Thompson said he was thrilled with the result:  “Once again I am delighted to be included in the awards and to be among such a group of fantastic cooks and restaurateurs.”

The awards, which were announced 24th February, were created by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 800 international industry leaders selected for their expert opinion.

After opening in September 2010, nahm quickly became a destination restaurant in Bangkok thanks to Thompson’s deep knowledge of Thai cuisine. Influenced as much by the street food of Bangkok as by centuries-old cookbooks belonging to private Thai households, his style combines big, bold flavours with meticulous attention to detail, fresh local produce and traditional cooking methods.

nahm devotees come from all over the world to savour such dishesas jungle curry of grilled salted beef with wild ginger, kaffir lime leaves and holy basil; prawns simmered in coconut cream served with smoky pork and white turmeric; steamed bamboo fish with Asian celery and yellow beans; and for dessert, durian and sweet sticky rice or crispy coconut cupcakes.

The restaurant, which is part of COMO Hotels and Resorts Group, is decked in rich golds and russets combined with raw brick pillars in a design reminiscent of the temples of the ancient Siam city of Ayutthaya. There is a terrace for poolside outdoor dining and three private dining rooms for exclusive occasions.
