The photographer who best captures the essence of Cornwall's nationally protected Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in their Diamond anniversary year will be winning a week in one of the jewels of the AONB's crown.
Mylor Yacht Harbour is surrounded by peerless coast and countryside, looking across the glorious waterways of the Carrick Roads and past Pendennis and St Mawes Castles to Falmouth Bay.
As proud supporters of the AONB, Mylor is delighted to offer the first prize of a week for two in one of its Harbourside Holidays cottages for Cornwall AONB's 'Diamond Landscapes' photographic competition.
Cornwall's 12 AONBs – 11 tracts of Cornish coastline and the whole of Bodmin Moor - were amongst the first in the UK to become protected landscapes under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949.
The competition is looking to capture just what Cornwall's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty represent and, in this 60th Anniversary Year, they are seeking entries that follow the theme of 'A Diamond Landscape – Every Picture Tells a Story'. The winning entry will be an amazing photo that not only captures the outstanding natural beauty of the designated landscape but also the people who may be living, working or enjoying themselves in any of the areas.
As a voluntary Trustee of the Cornwall AONB, this is a mission close to the heart of Mylor Yacht Harbour's Managing Director Neil Salter: “Every day I have the privilege of arriving to work in this utterly beautiful part of the world – which for 60 years has been rightly protected by national legislation. We want to play our part in raising the profile of Cornwall's AONBs, getting more people interested in helping to protect and enhance these wonderful landscapes.”
The lucky “Diamond Landscape” first prize winner will get to immerse themselves in this tranquil part of the Cornwall AONB during a week for two, staying in a waterside apartment with access to any number of quiet beaches coves and coastal walks – yet close to the bustling historic port of Falmouth.
The second prize is lunch for two at St Mawes' elegant Hotel Tresanton, overlooking St Anthony Headland and its lighthouse made famous by the children's programme Fraggle Rock.
Third prize gives a family water-borne access to Falmouth Harbour and the Carrick Roads up as far as Truro with a Family Fal River Mussel Card.
Full details on the twelve landscapes of Cornwall's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Diamond Landscape photography competition, the rules and how to submit your photos are on the Cornwall AONB website https://www.cornwall-aonb.gov.uk/blog/2019/4/11/a-diamond-landscape-2019-photo-competition . The competition closes on Monday 16th September and the winning entries will be used to showcase the people and places that make up Cornwall's stunning landscapes on the AONB website and in future AONB publications.
