My Fathers Den Youve Seen It In The Movies; Now Lets See If Its True

Bridge & Wickers

The majestic land and seascapes of New Zealand deserve a place in the cast list of the new award-winning film In My Fathers Den, that is to premiere in London on June 22, 2005. If locations were awarded Oscars, New Zealand would have its sideboard groaning with them, said Jerry Bridge, director of New Zealand specialist travel company, Bridge & Wickers, who are working with the film distributors on a range of opportunities. Drive more or less anywhere and youll see what the fuss is about. Central Otago where much of the movie was filmed over an eight-week period was also the setting for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

British-born Matthew Macfadyen, best known for his role in the BBC's BAFTA winning spy drama series Spooks, stars in the film, which has already won awards at both the San Sebastian and Toronto Film Festivals. He plays the part of a disillusioned war photographer who rediscovers hope in a surprising friendship with a teenage girl. The beautifully observed drama turns into a thriller when she mysteriously disappears.

Bridge & Wickers offers holidays that feature the almost desert-like area of Central Otago and Auckland, the City of Sails, among other scenic highlights.

The three-week, from head to tail, New Zealand Grand Tour with Bridge & Wickers (Tel 020 7483 6555 www.bridgeandwickers.co.uk ) costs 1,562 per person based on two sharing including accommodation, car hire, transfers in Auckland and Christchurch, ferry crossings and TranzAlpine train. The tour includes a Safari of the Rings by 4WD featuring movie locations in the remote high country around Skippers Canyon, which cuts through the Richardson Mountains.

Among the films key locations are the towns of Roxburgh, until the release of this film best known for the mighty Clutha river which rushes from the Roxburgh Dam to the sea, Alexandra famous for its spring festival, and Cromwell, once the focus of a thriving gold mining trade.
