Now accepting reservations for stays in Summer 2014
Mustang Monument Wild Horse Eco-Resort, a one-of-a-kind luxury eco-resort in Elko County, Northeastern Nevada, U.S.A., is now accepting reservations for overnight stays for June through September in 2014.
More than a resort, Mustang Monument is the showplace for a significant cause: Saving America's Mustangs. This is the only location where visitors can see Wild Mustangs in their natural habitat. These animals helped pioneers explore and settle America, and at their new home they experience the freedom and open spaces of the 900-square-mile preserve.
Overnight guests will spend time observing, photographing and learning about these beautiful animals while staying in custom luxury Tipis and dining on Southwestern gourmet cuisine. Presently, 600 horses are at home at Mustang Monument. Resort activities include wildlife safaris, archery, hiking, Native American beading, in-Tipi spa treatments and corporate team building.
The story of this luxury property began in 2008 when animal welfare activist Madeleine Pickens had a vision to provide a new direction of care for the majestic animals. She was fascinated with the story of America and the Wild Mustangs and was determined to provide a home for the animals and also allow a selected number of visitors to learn more about the animals while participating in a luxury vacation.
"Someone who is seeking a one-of-a-kind experience will certainly find that at Mustang Monument Wild Horse Eco-Resort,'' said Madeleine Pickens, business woman and philanthropist who was born in England and moved to the U.S. in 1969. "The high-end property excels at providing luxury and comfort in beautiful natural surroundings. Experiencing the Wild Mustangs in their natural habitat is what makes this place the must-do vacation experience of a lifetime. We can't let these animals be gathered and thrown into a world of horror and slaughter. It's too beautiful a part of life, theirs and ours.''
Just 100 years ago more than two million of these animals dotted the prairies and plains the United States. Today their population is just 28,000. In 1971 the Bureau of Land Management took oversight of the animals and many were placed in ranches in the Midwest and are not available for the public to see. At one time, the Bureau considered selling or euthanizing 30,000 wild horses. Pickens established Saving America's Mustangs as a foundation to create a home to save the national treasures.
In Wells, Nevada, 177 miles from Salt Lake City, Utah, Mustang Monument's location offers stunning valleys and mountain views in every direction. Accommodations are hand-painted Nomadic Tipis. Exteriors are one-of-a-kind works of art celebrating the Native American culture. Inside visitors find more than an ordinary dwelling, king-sized beds, Native American rugs, luxurious linens; hypoallergenic pillows and other first-class amenities create a setting that is pure pampering. Each Tipi has an adjacent bathroom Tipi. A 24-hour butler attends to guests requests.
The Western experience is incorporated into every element of the guest stay at Mustang Monument. Visitors will enjoy gourmet cuisine prepared by James Beard-award winning chef Chef Robert McGrath showcasing Southwestern Cuisine. Evenings conclude with stories of the area and the Mustangs - told by story tellers about these living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the American West.
All staff members were personally invited by Ms. Pickens to join the Mustang Monument team due to their commitment to the area. She is known for providing top-of-the-line guest experiences. She owns Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California and it is continually sighted as one of the premier private clubs of its kind.
Mustang Monument will become one of the most luxurious properties in the United States, but it will be known for providing the opportunity to experience beautiful creatures in their natural setting.
Presently, the resort is open during the months of June, July, August and September in 2014.
The price for a luxury Tipi is $1,200 per night for single occupancy; $1,400 for double occupancy. The property has 50 Luxury Tipis and Safari Tents and can accommodate 100 overnight guests for corporate retreats and incentive groups. Accommodations can be expanded for corporate and incentive groups (whole and group rates are available.)
The price includes a welcome reception, Gourmet Western meals (including vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy-free options) and a premium selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. All activities, including customized tours to explore the area, are part of the package. Spa services are available for an additional fee and should be scheduled prior to arrival. The minimum stay is two nights for Monday to Thursday and three nights from Thursday to Sunday.
During the warm summer months average high temperatures for the area are: June, 77; July, 85 and August, 85. The average temperature for September is 76 degrees.
Taking good care of the environment is an important aspect of caring for the Wild Mustangs. The resort has a commitment to be environmentally friendly. Solar power, energy efficient lighting, environmentally friendly cleaning products, recycling and sourcing local foods are just some of the programs in place.
In addition to individual guests, the resort also offers custom programs for groups. Special team building experiences can include geo trekking, paintball and boot camp, plus Amazing Race and leisure Olympics.
