July 2nd Arches National Park will have a telescope available from 9 – 11 PM to experience the park after dark. Bring a chair, red flashlight to help maintain night vision and perhaps a jacket to the Arches National Park visitor center and enjoy a ranger program in Arches. or any other dark night with Red Rock Astronomy.

On July 4th, Grass Roots Events will have the MAS 50 – Moab's Alpine to Slickrock 50 mile foot race early (5 AM) that morning to be completed at the Slickrock trail in the Sand Flats Recreation area. So plan accordingly and move safely, yielding to runners, expect delays into the afternoon upon the Sand Flats Road from the La Sal Loop junction to Slickrock Trail trailhead.

See fireworks 4th of July from many parts of the Moab Valley, just step outside and turn to the east rim up over the Sand Flats Recreation area. Get clear of treetops and a roof possibly blocking ones view of the sky. Fireworks start after dark, so plenty of time is available to shower after a day of touring and playing in and around Moab Utah.

July is hot! http://discovermoab.com/climate.htm Be sure to hydrate and fortify yourself with electrolytes. Protect skin with sunscreen or cover up with light weight fabrics. Wetting light weight fabrics has a cooling effect. Mop skin with a wet bandana for the evaporative cooling this action transfers.

A free lecture will be held at the Moab Information Center from 6-7 PM on Thursday, July 14th. The Utah Division of Wildlife is slated to speak on the Conservation of Unique Desert Fishes. While there isn't a synopsis about this presentation, perhaps it will reflect news about the Nature Conservancy working to develop a fish nursery within Scott M Matheson Wetlands Preserve of Moab with partners at Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/northamerica/unitedstates/utah/explore/gently-down-the-stream.xml

Find the free publication, Moab Happenings, for a list of live music playing around town in the evenings. It is in the doorway of shops, lobbies of hotels, offices of campgrounds and foyers of grocery stores. It can also be reviewed online, www.MoabHappenings.com.

Write the Moab Travel Council events@discovermoab.com to get the document “When the Desert is HOT” emailed to you. It should help prepare for a warm July Moab visit.
