Boasting some of the cheapest holidays to be found in Spain, the emerging Region of Murcia is the place to head for some late summer sun - with a six-day break available on its famed Mar Menor available from just €157 (£135 approx) per person.
This month's Trivago Hotel Price Index report highlighted the area as the cheapest accommodation provider among the Spanish Costas at an average €67 per night, with the city of Murcia offering the lowest hotel rates anywhere in the country at an average €52 a room.
Available from August 25 until the end of September, holidaymakers can enjoy a five-night stay in the Tesy and Valmanga apartments in La Manga del Mar Menor and take advantage of a wide array of excursions both on and off the water.
Prices are based on two adults sharing a room, with one child under 12 travelling free, and include a catamaran ride around the Mar Menor - Europe's largest saltwater lagoon - and a visit to the magnificent Roman theatre and museum at Cartagena.
Enjoying more than 300 days' annual sunshine, the Region of Murcia is ideal for UK families seeking a late summer bargain and there are many other excursions that can be experienced including a boat trip around the Costa Calida, a snorkelling trip and the chance to try a diving initiation.
Alternatively, visitors can head along the coast to Aguilas to the four-star Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel and enjoy a five-night half-board stay from now until August 24 for only €356 (approx £310) per person.
Based on a minimum two adults travelling, the package features a boat ride around the Aguilas coast, with the chance to view the seabed with an underwater camera, and a game of mini golf.
In addition, other activities that can be enjoyed include sailing and kayaking trips and a visit to the hotel's spa to experience a Celtic Circuit - featuring a combination of baths in swimming pools at different temperatures, showers, saunas, foot baths and jets that provide great harmony and inner balance.
