Nearly two years after Jedi knights and other Star Wars-inspired characters invaded Virginias Shenandoah Caverns to shoot scenes for a fan film, the movie Revelations premiered at Baltimores historic Senator Theater. Shane Felux and his Panic Struck Productions company used the caverns as well as a Washington museum and a Maryland saloon as unusual sites for filming. Star Wars fan films are recognized by the movie dynastys creator, George Lucas, annually, but especially in years like 2005, when a major Star Wars movie is being released. This years film gathering takes place April 21-24 in Indianapolis.
The filming in June 2003 continued a long tradition at Shenandoah Caverns. According to local newspaper articles, the first film ever shot underground was shot at Shenandoah Caverns by the Hearst International News Service in the 1920s. Since that time, the caverns have appeared in commercials for Kodak and Duracell, as well as training and educational films. Armed Forces Television also did a spot from Shenandoah Caverns during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
Another bit of movie history here at the caverns was the visit of the movie star Greta Garbo, who spent the night at the caverns hotel with members of her family in the 1930s, said Joe Proctor, general manager.
