Move Over Mary Berry! SkiWeekends.com Chalet Cookery Course A Huge Success

Ski Weekends

Move over Mary Berry!

The Snow-Campers are back and qualified.

After 1 week in Morzine at the aptly named Chalet Gourmet, a group of 6 Snow-Camp apprentices completed and passed their skiweekends.com Chalet Cookery Course.

They went out novice Snow-Camp apprentices and have returned last weekend confident caterers able to prepare, make and present chalet meals for up to 21 guests.

Ski Weekends will now place 6 of them in their chalets for 2 weeks during the forthcoming season.

Living in the Alps was a dream that most of these guys never thought would become a reality. Snow-Camps innovative programme and a combination of snowsports and life-skills has helped these young people grow in confidence and self-esteem, develop as individuals and make positive choices for their lives.

Wesley Monteiro, 17, Westminster said “It's been an awesome week which I'll never forget. I didn't realise just how easy it can be to cook great food, especially my lemon drizzle cake! I will definitely be cooking more when I get home and hopefully one day I'll put my skills to use in the mountains”.

Jasmine Jones, 17, Camden – “A new skill I learnt was to carry three plates of food to serve dinner, it was really hard as they are heavier than they look. I didn't think I would be able to do it, so I was so proud of myself that I did. I also cooked a carrot cake from scratch, which was well tasty! Everyday I learned something new!”

With their CVs now boasting food hygiene, fruit carving, dessert making, customer service experience and snowsports experience the world is now their oyster.

Lara Kinnear, Snow-Camp, Programme Director said “It was a week of accelerated progression for the apprentices on the chalet course. I was so impressed with their professionalism and focus to learn many new skills over the week. We are delighted to be working with Skiweekends who are playing a huge part in supporting the charities aims, to provide inner city young people with work experience placements to prepare them for work within the snowsports industry. Thank you to Ralph and the whole Ski Weekends team for your on-going support!”

“Ski Weekends can directly see the benefits that this experience has had on these and previous Snow-Camp apprentices. The money raised through the Alpine Challenge combined with the generous work placements given by the snowsports organisations really does change lives, something we can be very proud of”, commented Dan Fox, MD of Skiweekends.com.

You can support Snow-Camp through placements and fundraising. Possibly the most fun and genuinely rewarding way is through the Alpine Challenge. Individually, with friends, or with colleagues. The 2015 Alpine Challenge registration fee is just £200pp thanks to the partnership with Skiweekends.com. That includes flights, half board accommodation in Morzine, Portes du Soleil, a lift pass, GPS tracking, bibs, plus lots more and the race entry too!

SkiWeekends.com can tailor flights from all major airports to tie into work schedules. All participants then need to do is commit to raise a minimum of £750 sponsorship for Snow-Camp before taking part in the Alpine Challenge.
