Mount Hotham Blanketed With Over 5cm Of Snow And It Is Still Falling!

Hotham Alpine Resort

Mount Hotham has experienced its first official snowfall for the 2002 Season with over five centimetres falling overnight and throughout today.

Snowfall began just after midnight with Hotham locals awaking to find a blanket of white on the ground.

We were predicting snowfall overnight, but to wake up to snow settling on the ground was a welcoming surprise, commented Hotham General Manager - Operations, Len Dobell.

Dinner Plain also received substantial snowfall overnight with the morning light revealing snow covered lanes and snowgums.

A temperature of minus 1.9 degrees was registered at Mount Hotham at 9am today.

With the possibility of further snowfalls this Sunday, it would seem that the 2002 Season is beckoning.

Heavy snowfall in mid-May is an extremely encouraging sign leading into the season, commented Len.
