Mount Gambier in South Australia Has The Blues

South Australian Tourism Commission

South Australia's famous Blue Lake in Mount Gambier has once again turned on its summer show. The lake has revealed its brilliant blue colour, which continues to amaze locals and tourists every year.

The dormant volcanos true depth remains a mystery as does the reason why from November each year, the water slowly begins to turn a brilliant cobalt blue.

Visitors can learn about the Blue Lake at the Blue Lake Welcome Centre, which offers information about the history of the lake, the scientific and cultural theories about its colour change, and its significance to the surrounding volcanic plains.

People can also join a tour and be taken to the lake edge by a glass sided elevator, while guides explain the history of the Blue Lake, its changing modes over the centuries and how the lake is still vital to the regions prosperity.

A 3.6 kilometre walking trail provides a perfect setting for a scenic stroll around the rim of the lake, while picturesque sink-holes invite visitors to delve deep into a natural paradise.

The Blue Lake is just one of the Limestone Coast icons that visitors can experience while holidaying in this beautiful part of South Australia.
