A new half-day Dreamtime Walk Tour has been introduced that transports guests from Port Douglas and surrounds to the Mossman Gorge Centre, an Indigenous eco-tourism development serving the Mossman Gorge World Heritage site in Far North Queensland. Mossman Gorge provides one of Australia's most iconic Aboriginal experiences and is the perfect option for visitors looking for authentic engagement with Indigenous Australia.
Guests on the small group tour are transported in a purpose-built coach driven by an Indigenous Guide from the Mossman Gorge Kuku Yalanji community.
“From the moment guests step onboard, their guide provides a very warm and engaging introduction to this Indigenous tour which incorporates culture, history and storytelling on stunning private Kuku Yalanji country in the heart of the rainforest,' said Voyages CEO Andrew Williams.
The Half Day Mossman Gorge Dreamtime Walk Tour from Port Douglas includes return transfers from Port Douglas with Indigenous Driver Guide, 1.5 hour Dreamtime Gorge Walk with exclusive access to Kuku Yalanji land, stories of the Kuku Yalanji culture & traditions, traditional smoking ceremony, bush tea and damper with an intimate group of a maximum of 16 people. The tour departs daily at 8.30am and returns 12.45pm. Adults $93 and children $48 and family $250.
“Mossman Gorge Centre was developed in partnership with the local community and since opening four years ago has operated successfully to provide visitors with an intimate on-country cultural experience while creating significant economic, employment and training opportunities for the local Kuku Yalanji people,” said Andrew.
In addition to the new tour, the Dreamtime Walk Tour that all visitors to Mossman Gorge can join provides one of Australia's most iconic Aboriginal experiences in Tropical North Queensland. This tour offers exclusive access to beautiful Kuku Yalanji country by experienced interpretive Indigenous guides who demonstrate traditional plant use, identify bush food sources and provide an enchanting narrative of the rainforest and their special relationship with this unique tropical environment. The walk starts with a traditional 'smoking' ceremony that cleanses and wards off bad spirits before meandering through stunning rainforest and takes in traditional huts or humpies and a short live performance before finishing with traditional bush tea and damper.
The Centre also operates regular environmentally friendly shuttle buses from the Centre into the Gorge and operates a thriving Cafe, Art Gallery & Gift Shop.
