Moscow City Committee on Tourism and Hotel Industry

During a press conference at World Travel Market 2014, the Head of the Moscow Tourism and Hospitality Industry Committee, Mr. Sergei Shpilko, highlighted the latest tourism news and developments that took place in Moscow during 2014 and announced plans for next year.

Moscow has introduced a new city card, PrimePass Moscow, which allows tourists the chance to use the city transport, complimentary entry to museums, cinemas and entertainment parks 24-hours a day, and at an affordable price of only £16 per pass.

In addition to new attractions, Russia's capital city is welcoming an influx of new hotels including the Four Seasons Hotel Moscow which opened during late 2014, located in a landmark location adjacent to Red Square, the ibis Moscow Dynamo scheduled to open in April 2015 and Radisson Blu Riverside Hotel, Moscow in 2018.

Russia's capital city has also introduced a modern, multilingual navigation system allowing tourists to easily find local attractions including museums, theatres and the key sights of the Russian capital.

Mr. Sergei Shpilko says, “The number of hotels in Moscow has rapidly increased, with seven new hotels and the largest hostel in Russia recently opening adding 228 rooms, and by 2018, we plan to welcome an additional 115 new hotels. In 2014, we have also improved the cities' road infrastructure by creating pedestrian zones in Moscow, and as a result we now have 80 pedestrian zones altogether offering a total of 100km of space.”

The winter season is the ideal period to visit Moscow, with over 35 Christmas Markets and Fairs open across the city from 12th December 2014 – 11th January 2015 and the world's largest LED Christmas Ball on show. Visitors can also enjoy over 150 skating rings, including the largest in Europe, try traditional Russian sledge riding with Troika and explore a number of fun Christmas installations including over 75 illuminated Christmas trees.

Winter is also the most affordable time to visit, with hotels and airlines offering a number of great value packages, including three nights bed and breakfast accommodation in a 4* hotel and one sight-seeing tour by bus with an English speaking guide for only £89 per person!
