9th October, 2017— In conjunction with World Food Day, a global day of action against hunger, Pan Pacific Hotels Group has partnered the People's Association to reach out to more than 1,700 low-income households island-wide with their thoughtful food bundles of locally-grown produce.

As part of Pan Pacific Hotels Group's Eat Well Do Good initiative, a food donation drive was conducted across five Pan Pacific and PARKROYAL hotels for a month from 15 July to 15 August, where close to $35,000 was raised to purchase food bundles for a total of 1,722 families this year.

Each food bundle, worth a total of $37.50, has been carefully curated to contain healthy ingredients rarely received by beneficiaries in typical food donation drives. Comprising locally-grown high quality produce such as barramundi fish, green leafy vegetables and eggs, each food bundle is also accompanied by a Japanese saucepan and recipes designed by our culinary team to teach recipients how to whip up a tasty and healthy meal for their families at home.

Making food accessible to all has become Pan Pacific Hotels Group's annual mission. This year, our World Food Day campaign has been made possible with the support of like-minded corporate and community partners The Food Bank Singapore, urban farm Comcrop, kitchen supplier ToTT, as well as the People's Association, who identified the beneficiaries through their vast network of grassroots organisations on the ground.

To mark World Food Day and to kick off our food distribution drive, we hosted 200 beneficiaries to a special five-course lunch yesterday. The menu included a dish made with locally-sourced ingredients from the food bundle, which was demonstrated onstage by Executive Chef Andy Oh of Pan Pacific Orchard, Singapore.

The afternoon's programme featured a pampering element throughout, from a birthday cake specially baked for those who are celebrating their birthdays in October, to gifts of miniature vanity products and chocolate in goodie bags for the adults and children respectively. Our guests also enjoyed entertainment activities such as a performance by guest artistes Jaspers Lai and Noah Yap of Ah Boys to Men fame. The event was graced by Mr Lee Hong Chuang, BBM, Adviser to Hougang Grassroots Organisations and Mr Desmond Tan, Chief Executive Director of People's Association.
