COX & KINGS LAUNCHES 2017 EUROPE BROCHURE WITH COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION OF ESCORTED TOURS AND EXPANDED PRIVATE TRAVEL IDEAS

London – 26 September 2016

Cox & Kings' European programme continues to grow and the 2017 collection offers even more ideas, with more train travel and self-drive holidays, as well as new escorted tours for solo travellers. Forward sales for 2017 are up 90% for passengers compared to this time last year, with bookings to Russia looking especially strong. The lead-in escorted tour, a 7-night trip to Turkey, is priced from £895 per person, and an 8-night Romania tour is from £995 per person.

Cox & Kings' Europe Product Manager, Michael Fleetwood, says: “Cox & Kings' European programme continues to diversify every year and once again, Europe is the company's bestselling region. 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution and I am delighted to see our tours to the country are proving so popular. We offer a wide range of holidays across the continent encompassing travel by road, rail and river, and whether it is an escorted tour or private travel, there is very little our well-travelled team of experts can't arrange.”

RUSSIA: For the third year running, Classic Russia is the company's bestselling tour and has additional departure dates for 2017. The 7-night escorted tour is priced from £1,155 per person.

NEW: Moscow: Art of the Russian Revolution.  As part of Cox & Kings' collection of tours with the Royal Academy, a new tour for 2017 is being introduced to mark the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. The 4-night tour is accompanied throughout by an expert art lecturer and includes in depth visits to Moscow's best art museums. The tour is priced from £1,345 per person and has three departures in 2017.

NEW: SICILY Cox & Kings has expanded its range of solo traveller tours and now includes a 6-night tour to Sicily. Priced from £1,895 per person, the Sicilian Explorer Solo Traveller tour includes excursions to many of the island's historic sites as well as a winery in Marsala. All of Cox & Kings' Solo Travellers tours include twin rooms for solo use, most dinners and a maximum group size of 18.

SPAIN: Passenger numbers on the company's Splendours of Andalucía escorted tour are up 10% for 2016 compared with 2015 and the 7-night tour is priced from £1,235 per person for 2017 departures.

NEW: El Transcantabrico. Cox & Kings is delighted to include the train, which is the oldest in Spain, for the first time. El Transcantabrico Clasico features renovated 1920s Pullman with en suite cabins and an a la carte menu in the dining car. Among the rail journeys on offer, Cox & Kings features a 6-night Spain by Luxury Train itinerary priced from £2,695 per person which includes four nights' full board on the train travelling between Santander and Santiago de Compostela. The train also operates from Santiago de Compostela to Leon or San Sebastian, and vice versa.

NEW: Self-drive. Cox & Kings has also introduced two new self-drive tours to Andalucía: a 6-night itinerary combining the cities of Seville, Granada and Cordoba priced from £650 per person; and an 8-night itinerary priced from £1,050 per person visiting Granada, Toledo and Ronda, staying in Paradors; converted historic buildings that provide characterful accommodation.

ROMANIA: Timeless Romania remains one of Cox & Kings' top ten bestselling escorted tours. The tour visits the country's most impressive sights and includes exquisite painted monasteries, Saxon churches, dramatic castles and medieval towns that have changed very little. For 2017, there are selected departure dates that include tickets for an evening concert at the bi-annual George Enescu festival in Bucharest. The 8-night tour remains priced from £995 per person for 2017.

NOTE TO EDITORS

Cox & Kings is the world's longest established travel company. Its history stretches back more than 250 years to 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed regimental agent to the Footguards (later the Grenadier Guards). The company's fortunes grew hand in hand with the British empire and by the early 20th century the company was acting as agent and banker throughout the armed forces and as a shipping agent. In 1922 Cox & Co merged with the Henry S King bank, which had strong connections with India. The bank became part of Lloyds and the shipping agency grew separately, evolving into the modern travel company.

Today, built on the high quality service and attention to detail established by Richard Cox in the 18th century, the company continues to flourish as an independent tour operator, with operations in London, the US, Japan, Australia and throughout India. Cox & Kings organises escorted small-group tours and private tailor-made travel in the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, and the Caribbean.
