Modernism Week will return to Palm Springs from the 13th - 23rd February 2020, showcasing the very best of the city's modernist heritage and culture with a series of impressive events. The festival's full schedule has now been released and tickets are selling out fast for the 11-day line-up of tours, talks and parties.
Must-see events in 2020's programme include:
Uptown Design District – Three Eras of Revival
On this guided tour visitors can discover the diverse architectural styles of Palm Springs' uptown design district, taking in the exteriors of iconic homes, boutiques, businesses, galleries, and churches in the area. The tour will include visiting some of the city's earliest resorts and inns that to this day reflect the relaxing and glamorous atmosphere Palm Springs is known for around the world. Tickets cost $40 and the tour runs daily at 9:30am from the 13th – 23rd February.
Palm Springs Door Tour 2020
Beginning at the Saguaro Palm Springs hotel on the 16th February, this self-guided tour explores the colourful and unique doors of the Indian Canyons neighbourhood by bike. Presented by Dunn-Edwards Paints and curated by Palm Springs Style, guides will be on hand at each stop of the route to share information about the homes' architecture and iconic front doors. Visitors can bring their own bike, or rental bikes can be picked up at the event check-in if booked in advance. The tour costs $20 and those taking part can snap photos of the doors along the way and post to Instagram for a chance to win some fun surprises!
Modernism Week Signature Home Tour II
This self-driven home tour on the 24th February will take visitors inside a myriad of iconic architectural homes by some of Palm Springs' most noted architects. The tour will explore the city's various neighbourhoods and feature homes chosen for their architecture, interiors, gardens and grounds that epitomise Palm Springs and its unique design heritage. Tickets cost $135 and a keepsake tour program and map is included.
Mid-century Mixology
A new addition to the Modernism Week programme, this booze-themed event will be held at Palm Springs' renowned Mr Lyon's Steakhouse, twice daily at 12pm and 3pm, on the 14th, 15th and 16th February. Joining some legendary mixologists, attendees will learn how to make some of the mid-century's most iconic tipples and classic cocktails before getting to sample them. Tickets are $62 and include three drinks.
Modernism Week will also see the return of some of the festival's most-loved signature events, including the 'Premier Double Decker Architectural Bus Tour', 'Frey House II Tour' and 'Mod with a Twist – Living the Dream'.
