MoabAir Activities Reaching an Ultimate High

We all need air. Apart from breathing it, there are ways to experience air. Moabhas mild to wild Air Adventures. The Canyonlands Airport not only receives commercial flights daily via Denver, Colorado, the airport also sees tourists taking to the skies for scenic flights, skydiving and hot air ballooning. The newest AIRTIME activities inMoab are not airport based. There are growing communities of backcountry users high-lining and B.A.S.E. jumping. Now inMoab, tandem B.A.S.E. jumping is available and a slackline park has been established. Besides those, a zipline has been erected and a BASE Jumping and skydiving pro shop has opened.

B.A.S.E. jumping is a sport of parachuting from a high structure: building, antennas, spans (bridges) and earth (cliffs). It is a low altitude, extreme sport invented in 1978. BASEjumping was popularized by filming jumps fromEl Capitan,YosemiteNational Park. National Parks consider BASE jumps an aerial delivery into a National Park. It is banned. Land controlled by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) does not ban air delivery, thusMoab’s cliffs are a great attraction as so much terrain is managed by the BLM aroundMoab.

For some, no sweat adrenaline will appeal with zipping through the skies ofMoab. This is a family friendly course of tree-less zipline cables located near the famous Slickrock Mountain Bike Trail. Six lengths through space vary from 280’ to 1200,’ and requires access by a 2 mile 4wd ATV trail that is as much of a rush as ziplining inMoab.

Tightrope walking is known in canyon country as slacklining when it is near the ground and highlining when it spans the air atop of canyon rims. A newly constructed slackline park has been set up for the growing numbers of balance aerial enthusiasts. The slackline park offers five posts to set up lines with varying lengths from 25 feet to 100 feet. A few short lines are permanently set for beginners.

These newer Air Adventures shine beside Moab’s standards: Scenic flights, hot air ballooning and skydiving. Don’t just breathe air, experience it with Moab’s Mild to Wild Air Adventures. Find the new businesses on www.discovermoab.com.
