Miraval Announces Spring Hiking Week, March 23-28

Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa

[Tucson, AZ] - Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa, the award-winning luxury wellness resort, has announced its inaugural Spring Hiking Week, taking place March 23-25. Spring Hiking Week expands the resort's outdoor adventure programming, offering guests a series of challenging hikes through the beautiful terrain of the Santa Catalina Mountains in Tucson's Sonoran Desert.

While Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa is known for its mindfulness and spa programming, it also has daily fitness-focused and outdoor adventure programming including mountain biking, rock climbing and hikes that typically average 3-5 miles. Spring Hiking Week will provide even more challenging hiking options for guests looking for greater fitness challenges.

Scheduled hikes include:

Monday, 3/23: Ventana Canyon, Window Rock Peak

13 miles | 3800' elevation gain

A popular trail in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains, the Maiden Pools have drawn visitors up this canyon for centuries. The trail crosses a boulder filled ravine with picturesque rock walls many times before it reaches a final steep mile of switchbacks eventually ascending up the canyon topping out at Window Rock!

Tuesday, 3/24: Picacho Peak

6 ± miles | 1300' elevation gain

This is a short strenuous hike to the top of a spectacular summit. Expect short steep sections requiring hand-over-hand climbing aided by steel cables and handrails. When you arrive at the summit you will be rewarded with 360 degrees of breathtaking views of the surrounding Sonoran desert.

Wednesday, 3/25: Mount Wrightson

10 miles | 4500' elevation gain Santa Rita Mountains: Up and down the highest peak in the Tucson area (2nd in Southern Arizona, 500' higher than Mt. Lemmon), to the south of Tucson. A dramatic rock summit extends above the forests of spruce, fir & pine: the classic “Sky-Island”.

Thursday, 3/26: Prison Camp to Bear Canyon

9.5 ± miles | 2000' elevation drop

This is a mostly downhill hike with moderate sections of climbing. Hikers and guides will be dropped off at The Prison Camp Trailhead and the group will hike through Bear Canyon down to the Sabino Canyon recreation area. Along the way we will stop by the “Seven Falls” area.

Friday, 3/27: Mount Lemmon Hill Climb

13 miles | 6000' elevation gain

This is the most strenuous hike of the week. The hike begins at the Romero trailhead at approximately 3000' elevation and travels up the mountain to the top of Mt. Lemmon at approximately 9000' elevation. A van will be waiting at the top of Mt. Lemmon and hikers will enjoy a relaxing ride down Catalina Highway.

Saturday, 3/28: Kimball Peak Hike

10 miles | 4100' elevation gain

After a mile warm-up, this trail gets steep, and stays steep. This “stair master” of the Catalinas is our favorite exercise trail. The further you go the higher up the canyon walls get. If you are looking for one hiking challenge, this is it!

Spring Hiking Week guests are also encouraged enjoy the resort's world-renowned mindfulness programming and post-hike spa treatments at the Life in Balance Spa. Additional activities for guests could include an Athlete's Massage at the Life in Balance Spa, Miraval's signature Equine Experience, yoga and meditation classes, and life-enhancing meetings with wellness specialists, nutritionists and exercise physiologists. As always, flavorful and healthy dining is all-inclusive.
