Airport Continues to See Positive Improvements in 2022
Bloomington, MN (May 19, 2022) – Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) continues to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic, welcoming back several nonstop flights and an increased level of passengers. The airport, which borders Bloomington's Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge and is just minutes from Mall of America, now serves 137 nonstop markets, including 118 domestic and 19 international. A total of 17 commercial passenger airlines fly to MSP.
MSP recently announced the return of nonstop service to Frankfurt, Germany after a two-year hiatus. Flights will depart three times a week on Condor Airlines beginning June 1 and will provide a convenient way for travelers to connect to destinations all over Europe. The Frankfurt service announcement comes just a few weeks after the resumption of Delta's nonstop flights to Heathrow International Airport in London, a route that had been temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to an increase in international destinations, MSP Airport also recently received top honors from Airports Council International (ACI)'s Airport Service Quality program. MSP was named the Best Airport in North America in the 25-40 million passenger category for 2021. The program scores airports based on customer surveys conducted at airports in 91 countries and includes categories such as health and hygiene and environment and ambiance. MSP was also named the Best Airport in North America for four straight years between 2016-2019.
MSP's Arts and Culture Program continues to showcase the local artistic community through rotating and permanent exhibits. One of the most visible pieces of art at the airport, Jen Lewin's Aurora, is now complete in the Terminal 1 departure area. Aurora is a 29-foot, 720-pound experiential sculpture that represents the Northern Lights and public lakes in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area.
Bloomington, Minnesota is located adjacent to MSP Airport and easily accessible via the METRO Blue Line light rail. Most of Bloomington's 45 hotels offer complimentary shuttle to and from the airport. Bloomington is a popular destination for both corporate travel (due to the large concentration of Fortune 500 companies in Minnesota and MSP's designation as a Delta hub) and leisure visits (Bloomington is the home of the world-famous Mall of America).
