The City of Miami Beach is in the final weeks of preparing to launch the yearlong centennial celebration as the city turns 100 years old. Led by the vision and energy of Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine, the centennial celebration will run through October 31, 2015 with the theme -- “This is How We Celebrate.”
“Throughout the year, activities and events will be reminiscent of the city's rich past, colorful present and promising future. During the week of 22 through 26 in March 2015, we are planning a major 100-hour extravaganza that appropriately celebrates our diverse and lively history,” said Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine. Look for major announcements very soon.
As the official birthday approaches on March 26, 2105, the major 100-hour extravaganza will include concurrent and continuous events throughout the city. These events will celebrate various areas of history that make up Miami Beach including fashion, cultural arts, sports and entertainment.
Throughout the year signature events such as Art Basel Miami Beach, Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by FOOD & WINE, South Florida Auto Show, Miami Marathon and others that make Miami Beach their home will honor the city's birthday with their own commemorations. For example, the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival will promote 100 days of free giveaways from October 20 through January 28 and sponsor a cake design contest through December. The selected cake design displays at their February event.
Miami Beach-based community and cultural arts organizations also observe the celebration. Miami Design Preservation League is launching an exhibit in its redesigned museum in October at its Ocean Drive address and hosts a series of lectures, tours and workshops on the city's history and architecture throughout the year.
The City of Miami Beach, in recognizing the enormous job to launch this yearlong celebration, has retained the notable event management firm, ACT Productions, Inc. as the centennial celebration executive producer. Bruce Orosz, CEO, and long-time resident of Miami Beach said recently, “The honor to produce the centennial celebration and especially the major events in March for the city's 100th birthday is extraordinarily meaningful to our firm. We have been provided a blank canvas by Mayor Levine and are busy developing events the city can be proud of. We look forward to making the announcement soon as to the performing artists we have secured to play on the two concerts' nights, March 25 - 26, 2015.”
The centennial event also provides an unprecedented platform to celebrate the sea and protect the city's spectacular marine and coastal ecology with an emphasis on climate change strategies for the future.
Since, Miami Beach is like no other, the city's 100th birthday will be acclaimed worldwide, and as such, there are several unique opportunities to be part of it all.
