Some time ago the get lost team caught wind of a Mexican town where the surf swells true, the beach is beautiful and the alleyways are lined with stalls selling the best fish tacos on earth. Enter Sayulita. Even the name makes you want to grab a margarita and kick back while watching the waves.
Determined to uncover whether or not this nirvana actually exists we set one of our most trusted explorers on the case. The story he brought back was so good that after reading it get lost publisher Justin Jamieson promptly booked tickets for his own Sayulita session.
“Featuring Sayulita on our cover was a no-brainer,” says Justin. “It's one of those laid-back, surfy beach towns I assumed had vanished long ago.”
“Even if you're not a surfer there's so much to do nearby,” he adds. “Try renting your own boat and cruising out to the nearby Marieta Islands. One isle has a beach tucked inside the gaping mouth of a cenote, and you'll probably spot dolphins and whales on the boat ride there.”
It's not just sun, sand and surf in issue 53, though. In this issue we've also set our eyes on snow. North America and Europe battle it out on the slopes in our Snow Showdown, with snow-sure terrain, ski-free escapades, cool hotels and local cuisine tussling for the win.
This issue also travels to China's far west – which is culturally more akin to the 'Stans than East Asia – and into Paris's illicit underground. We ride the railway to Myanmar's distant Shan State, feast in Albania, snorkel Iceland's continental fissure and check out San Francisco's up and coming Middle Polk neighbourhood with an architect turned Silicon Valley guru. Looking for something closer to home? Join us as we go mountain biking in the wilds of deepest, darkest Tassie at a new custom retreat.
You'll find all this and more in the new issue of get lost magazine. On sale from this week at newsagents and online from Apple Newsstand and Amazon.
