Medina Announces 20th property in 20th year

Medina Serviced Apartments

The Medina Group has completed its short-term expansion plan, with the addition of two new four and five star serviced apartment complexes in Perth - the last mainland capital to feature the Medina brand.

The two Medina openings in 2004 will represent a total of 20 properties for the group across Australia - the majority of which are owned by the Toga Group, a well-known development company based in Sydney.

Medina will be operating the Medina Grand Perth Convention Centre, part of the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, which is currently being constructed by Multiplex in the heart of the city's CBD.

The $28 million Medina Grand, expected to be the showpiece of the convention centre, will have 138 luxury apartments over five levels, with a restaurant on-site, three meeting rooms, pool, gymnasium, spa and sauna.

Medina has also signed an operating agreement to manage the Medina Executive Barrack Plaza at busy Barrack Street, a mixed-use development by Central City Pty Ltd.

There will be 100 serviced apartments at Medina Executive Barrack Plaza, comprising a mix of seven studio, 77 one bedroom and 16 two bedroom apartments. The four star operation will feature a restaurant, pool, gymnasium and meeting rooms.

The addition of the Perth properties follows Medina's successful $20 million transformation of Adelaides historic Treasury Building into a luxury, five star serviced apartment complex.

The Adelaide property, which is posting consistently high occupancy levels, is located on the corner of King William and Flinders Streets and has been leased for a 99 year period by Medina.

A Director of Medina, Mr Allan Vidor, said, The addition of the Perth operations represents a major achievement for Medina, where we can now claim 20 properties in 20 years.

"We now provide a mainland capital city coverage for corporate travellers and families in both the five and four star accommodation markets. Serviced apartments now represent significant competition to hotels as travellers are looking to enjoy greater privacy, space & style in our apartments".

Medina, which is actively looking for more opportunities to expand its management throughout Australia, currently operates properties in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra.
