Medieval Times

CONCEPT: Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament is an exciting evening of quality, family entertainment based upon the glory of the Middle Ages. Guests experience spectacular pageantry, dramatic horsemanship, breathtaking swordplay, falconry, sorcery and romance while feasting on a four-course banquet served in true medieval, pre-silverware fashion. The experience culminates in an authentic jousting tournament between six brave knights of the realm. (See PROGRAM for further details.)

THE CASTLE: Medieval Times California is a 70,000 square foot facility featuring the Grand Ceremonial Arena with seating up to 1,100 people. The fully enclosed, climate-controlled castle houses an elaborately decorated Hall of Arms, Museum of Torture, Knight Club and stable facilities.

HISTORY: Medieval Times is based upon authentic medieval history and the true story of a noble family with documentation dating back to the 11th century. Medieval Times began with two dinner/entertainment complexes located in Majorca and Benidorm, Spain. The first North American castle in Kissimmee, Florida opened in December 1983 and has since entertained more than 8.0 million visitors. Medieval Times also has Castles in Buena Park, California; Dallas, Texas; Lyndhurst, New Jersey; Schaumburg, Illinois; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Hanover, Maryland.

LOCATION: Medieval Times California is located at 7662 Beach Boulevard. Just one block north of Knotts Berry Farm and 10 minutes from Disneyland. Easily accessible from the Santa Ana (5) and Riverside (91) freeways.

PROGRAM: The experience begins as guests enter the 11th-century, European-style castle. Once inside, they are greeted by King Alfonso and Princess Esperanza who invite them to share in a regal banquet and cheer for their own Knight of the Realm. In the Hall of Arms, guests admire the display of medieval artifacts. There are coats of arms and a spectacular array of medieval weaponry. There is also a Museum of Torture, featuring reproductions of medieval torture instruments. As the festivities begin, trumpeters herald the guests into the Grand Ceremonial Arena where they are seated in one of six color-coded sections corresponding to the colors of one of the daring knights. Fifty serfs and wenches attend to every need of the guests who feast on a four-course dinner in true medieval, pre-silverware fashion. (See BILL OF FARE for further details.) The arena quickly fills with the thunder of hooves as the King of Arms leads the cast through a spectacular display of equestrian skills and medieval pageantry. The pace quickens as the Tournament of Games begins. The valiant knights on horseback face their competition in games of skill, such as the ring pierce, flag toss and javelin throw. The experience culminates as trumpeters summon the Knights of the Realm for the Tournament Royale. Guests join in the revelry and fun as they cheer their own knight to victory in authentic jousting matches and dangerous sword fights Following the evenings final show, guests have an opportunity to receive autographs and mingle with cast members in the Knight Club.
