The Canadian Tourism Commission and Tourism Saskatchewan will be hosting a small (5) group of UK media from the UK to Man up in Canada this Summer.
Departing the UK on July 17th you will fly to the Canadian Prairies. Activities will include:
A day at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Training Academy participating in a day of training and attending a regimental dinner. You will find out what is involved in their regular daily activities to become an esteemed member of Canada's police force (Mounties)
You will spend a day on a Canadian ranch experiencing life as a cowboy/rancher. After a day out on the range learning the everyday livehood of a rancher , you'll get to cook out over an open fire. Maybe the best meal you've ever tasted.
Float planes form an integral part of life in northern Saskatchewan (and other areas of Canada too). Communities are remote and are reliant on supplies getting through. Spend part of your day with a float plane mechanic as he plies his trade and tells you stories of the north. Complete the day with a float plane flight to show you the expanse of the Canadian Shield.
Prior to days of air travel, the explorers and residents of the north would have to travel by canoe, often long distances in search of wild game and /or new hunting grounds just to survive. Often they would need to make the choice of portaging around rapids or 'shooting them' with their canoes and gear. Have the opportunity to canoe a couple of sets of rapids with an expert canoeist to feel the rush and excitement.
Fishing was an important part of sustenance living years ago and remains for some today in northern Saskatchewan. Enjoy a day out on the water fishing for world class northern pike accompanied by a northern guide who knows the waters here better than you know your local coffee shop. Enjoy an island shore lunch of fresh fish after being taught by your guide how to clean your catch.
Saskatchewan is known as Canada's breadbasket given the provinces extensive agricultural importance and valued export of many commodities including being a world leader in lentil and mustard production and a continued significant player with their wheat production. We'll take you behind the scenes of a succesful farming operation .
You will arrive back in the UK early to mid morning on July 24th. Space will be allocated to media who have secured firm commissions with mutually agreed UK outlets and should be British nationals or passport holders not requiring VISA's to visit Canada. Participation does require participation in all elements of the trip. If you feel uncomfortable about participating in any of the elements please discuss with the CTC in advance.
To discuss your participation please contact Ms. Nim Singh, Media and PR Manager, Canadian Tourism Commission by email on singh.nim@ctc-cct.ca (not for publication).
