Learn the fine art of French cookery at the top English speaking cooking school in Lyon, a city widely known as the food capital of France.
Flavours of France offers a two to three night weekend package that includes cookery classes where guests will learn how to prepare classic Lyonnais dishes such as “oeufs en meurette” and “tarte aux pralines roses”, as well as restaurant-standard presentation. On Saturday, groups head to the local market to source fresh, seasonal ingredients used to create a 5 course gourmet meal accompanied by perfectly matched regional wines. Guests attend a second cookery class on Sunday with a choice of working with fresh herbs or learning to make French pastries.
At the start of the weekend, guests will enjoy a traditional 3 course dinner at a Lyonnais “bouchon” restaurant on Friday evening. The history of “bouchons” dates back to the 17th and 18th century inns visited by silk workers looking for hearty meals. They serve traditional Lyonnaise cuisine, such as sausages, fish dumplings and coq au vin and are known for their lively atmosphere.
Staying in the heart of Lyon’s peninsula surrounded by the rivers Rhône and Saône, guests can easily explore the sights of the city in their free time, including the charming Old Town. For breath-taking panoramic views it is worth climbing the Fourvière hill with its magnificent Catholic Basilica.
Company Director Anika Patel said: “Lyon is a must for the food obsessed. It is home to France’s most famous chef Paul Bocuse, also known as “The God”, and boasts 16 Michelin starred restaurants. On our French cooking holidays you are part of the local life and food culture, not just an observer. You can take home a real taste of French culinary life that will stay with you long after your holiday is over.”
The 4 day, 3 night package is available from £769 and can be booked online or by phoning 020 3286 3609/07703 620 886.
