Media Invitation: Lake Placid Media Day - January 20th

On Thursday, January 20, during Media Day in Lake Placid, NY, Keys to the City will be given to the media top highlight the �Winter Sports Capitol of the World.�

The �Keys� to the city will give media members a chance to ski, bobsled, luge and more. Members of the media are invited to experience for themselves the thrill of various indoor and outdoor winter activities on Thursday, January 20, during Media Day in Lake Placid, NY, the �Winter Sports Capitol of the World.�

Lake Placid will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the 1980 Olympic Games in February. As a sneak-preview of Lake Placid's opportunities for winter fun, members of the media are invited to experience for themselves the thrill of skiing an Olympic course at Whiteface Mountain, the adrenaline rush of bobsledding at 60 miles per hour, the excitement of visiting the very rink where the U.S. Men's Hockey team defeated the heavily favored Soviet squad - the �Miracle on Ice� in 1980, and more. During this one-day event, members of the media will receive a complementary �Key to Lake Placid� that will give them free passes to all Olympic venues. The complimentary �Keys to Lake Placid� will allow the media to partake in venues and adventures such as skiing at Whiteface or Gore Mountain, bobsled rides down the run where the mile-per-minute mark was broken at the 1980 games, luge rocket rides and ice skating on the Sheffield Skating Oval, the site where Eric Heiden won an unprecedented five gold medals in speed skating. Also included with a �Key� will be Cloudspitter Passenger rides at Whiteface Mountain, cross country skiing at Verizon Sports Complex located on Mt. Van Hoevenberg, in addition to admission to the 1932 and 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum and the MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex.

Lunch will also be provided to all attendees at the venues. Riders needing equipment will be able to acquire it at the appropriate venues. Space is limited.
