The Aarhus Festival a 10 day cultural extravaganza

From 31 August 9 September, Aarhus, the capital of Jutland takes on a new character when hundreds of artists and performers descend upon the city. The Aarhus festival has gone from strength to strength since its introduction in 1965 and is now one of the largest cultural events in Scandinavia. It has a different theme each year and in 2007 it is time for In Motion.

The programme encompasses a variety of arts including dance, theatre, exhibitions, opera, sports and childrens activities. In Motion will touch on more than just physical events like dance and gymnastics, it will also address other states of In Motion as in Where are we going? which will be raising issues of self-development, the community and other thought-provoking aspects.

The Festival opens at Musikhuset Concert Hall, with a performance of Le Sacre du Printemps. The ballet will be enhanced by a simultaneous and quite extraordinary 3D display by media artist Klaus Obermeier.

But most of all, The Aarhus Festival is something the entire family will enjoy. New for this year is that one area will be dedicated to 12-17 years under the heading Smells Like Teens. For the 6-10 year olds there is a Carnival and for the rest of us there will be a magical theatre performance by Enrique Vargas, The Meal, yes, you will have a full meal but blindfolded!!! Each evening head for Bispetorv Square, where the World Stage presents a variety of performances from Japan, Senegal, Bulgaria and of course, Denmark.

Take in the entire programme on www.aarhusfestuge.dk and book early! How can I get there? It is easy.
