RED Mountain Resort (www.redresort.com), near Rossland in BC’s powder-packed Kootenay Rockies, has been delivering incredible skiing longer than any other resort in Western Canada, with the first recorded powder turns in 1896. Offering incredible terrain with an 884m (2,919ft) vertical drop that annually features over 750cms (22ft) of snowfall, the resort boasts a terrain park, easy-to-access backcountry, snowshoeing, friendly locals, fine dining and affordable luxury slope-side lodging.
RED is located 10 kms north of the Canada/US border. UK visitors can fly to either Vancouver or Calgary and hop onto a connecting flight to one of three BC airports. Daily regional flights are available to Castlegar (30 minutes from RED) and Trail airports (15 minutes from RED), a short drive from the Resort. Or the international airport at Kelowna, BC, 1½ hours drive from RED is another option.
RED Mountain is one of the last great, unspoiled resorts. Located in Rossland, along the famous "Powder Highway," RED delivers 1,700 hectares (4,200 acres) of pristine skiing unfettered by overdevelopment. For 2013/14, the resort has added nearly 405 hectares (1,000 acres) of mostly-intermediate terrain on Grey Mountain, an entirely new peak.
New: Massive Expansion
RED Mountain Resort is readying itself for its most significant expansion to date, this time on Grey Mountain adjacent existing facilities on Granite and Red mountains.
In addition to the ski area’s Red and Granite peaks, skiers can now access one more stellar peak, Grey Mountain by chair lift -- with 360-degree skiing off the top! This development of Grey Mountain marks one of the single largest expansions of an existing resort in North America in four decades. It places RED Mountain Resort firmly in the scale of resorts such as Breckenridge, Colorado or Jackson Hole, Wyoming in terms of skiable acreage. Grey Mountain adds 997 acres to RED bringing the total skiable acres to 2,682. This puts the "local legend" hill in the Top 20 of all North American resorts in terms of terrain scale. The lift is on schedule to open December 14th, 2013.
