Action and Adventure in Italy's Beautiful South

As summer cools down and the temperature drops, it's the perfect time to visit Puglia. From cycling to swimming, sight-seeing to walking, this beautiful region is full of places waiting to be explored, and there's no better time to do it than in the quieter shoulder seasons.

Located in the heel of Italy's boot, Puglia's intense heat makes summer the ideal time for laid-back languid living and lazy trips to beach. But if you really want to explore, then autumn and spring are the times to do it, when the weather is still blissful, yet a little cooler, making it easy to get out and about.

Within close reach of many of Puglia's most interesting attractions, Masseria Petrarolo is the perfect base for an Apulian adventure. With 8 bedrooms, 2 swimming pools and 75 acres of grounds in which to roam, it offers an enticing blend of space, seclusion and luxury.

Only a short drive from the Masseria is the fascinating coastal town of Monopoli, where you can charter sailing boats along the coast, whilst from nearby Polignano a Mare, tours of the region's fascinating sea caves can easily be arranged.

Further down the coast lies the 1200 hectare Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve, a sprawling expanse of sandy beaches, wild woods and olive groves. Here you can hire bikes, go on nature walks, learn to kite-surf or take snorkelling trips over the coral. Travel even further south and you'll reach the famous Grotta Zinzulusa, an incredible cave full of stalactites and stalagmites, close to the town of Castro.

Combining the rural bliss of the Italian countryside with Baroque towns such as Lecce, fascinating villages like Alberobello, famed for its conical roofed trulli houses, and a stunning coastline, Puglia is also home to some fantastic golf courses. Not to mention sailing schools, water sports centres and picturesque cycle paths all within easy reach of the fabulous Masseria Petrarolo.
