The Marriott Business Council Hong Kong organised the first Charity Golf Tournament for Safe Kids China on the 23rd March 2006 at the Ernie Els Course, Mission Hills, Golf an Country Club, Shenzhen. The event was a huge success, raising HK$300,000 for the designated charity. Corporate friends and guests made up the 17 flights foursomes (a total of 68 guests) who played for charity.

The Marriott Business Council added this charity as there was a pressing and compelling need to educate parents and children in Hong Kong to prevent accidental death and injuries. According to recent studies by the Dept of Health (Hong Kong) there is an increase in accidental death for children from ages 0 to 14 due to fire, drowning and falls.

21 industry partners supported the event as Diamond, Gold or Silver Sponsors and among them, a total of 17 groups participated in the golf tournament. Tee off was promptly at 9:15 am with the three General Managers (Mr. Michael Nisky, GM- JW Marriott Hong Kong; Mr. Richard Saul, GM- Renaissance Harbour View Hotel and Mr. Javier Albar, GM- New World Renaissance Kowloon Hotel) officiating the funny ball at Hole #1.

Although it was overcast, everyone teed off in high spirits. Additional incentives were the Go for the Green with attractive prizes at Hole #5 and the really challenging hole-in-one prize of a Mercedes-Benz C-Class AvantGarde at Hole #17. Unfortunately, no golfer won the luxurious car.

The game was followed with a sumptuous lunch buffet reception and awards ceremony were a total of 10 awards like Best Male and Female Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin, Best Score Gross and Best Score Handicapped - were presented to the top players.

According to Monica Cui, Director of Safe Kids China, We are delighted and very grateful for the kindness and the generosity of the three hotels, the participants, the donors and sponsors. With this funding, we will be able to help teach more children and parents how to have a more safe environment at home and also in schools. The amount you have raised will also allow us to start a much needed office in Hong Kong. Again, we are deeply grateful.
