The Royal Air Force (RAF) has shaped the modern world and touched the lives of millions and in 2018 it will celebrate its centenary year. To mark the occasion, Shearings Holidays has launched a new five-day tour that provides the opportunity to delve a little deeper into the rich history and achievements of the RAF.
The tour includes a visit to probably the most famous landmark in the RAF's history – RAF College Cranwell. The Aviation Heritage Museum here portrays the story of this historic site, from its early days as a Royal Navy Air Service base to the present day. The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is also visited, a living memorial to the 55,500 men of Bomber Command who lost their lives in World War II. Newark Air Museum is explored on the tour too – located on part of the former World War II airfield of RAF Winthorpe, where aviation has been part of the site for over 45years.
Priced from £239pp the tour is available on selected dates in April and October 2018 and includes five days coach travel, four nights half board at the four-star Urban Hotel in Grantham, three excursions including visits to all the above. Two share.
