Marari Villas (+91 9947 948707; www.mararivillas.com) has just welcomed the first guests to its new beach house, Bougainvillea. Stylish and eco-friendly, it is the latest property from the pioneering provider of boutique, serviced villas in Kerala, India.
Set on the shores of the Arabian Sea, in the fishing village of Mararikulam, the beach house is far from the tourist crowds, offering an authentic and tranquil atmosphere for individuals, couples and families alike.
From December, Bougainvillea will also be the place to book a new range of flexible, all-inclusive Wellness Retreat packages, tailored to individual or group needs – with an initial special offer of 20 per cent off the price for stays prior to 15 December. These will include a personal yoga master, Ayurveda masseur and full-board accommodation at the private villa, serviced to the standards of a premium hotel.
Marari Villas – the Number 1 'Speciality Lodging' choice in Marari, according to Tripadvisor – has blended contemporary design and traditional vernacular architecture at Bougainvillea, with antique granite columns supporting lofty timber ceilings, offering residents inspiring indoor-outdoor living, perfectly suited to the tropical environment.
Bougainvillea's rooms are all sea-facing and have panoramic ocean and sunset views. They include two spacious king-size bedrooms, one with the option of twin beds and both with luxury en-suite bathrooms, a relaxing lounge-diner with its own bar and a well-equipped, modern kitchen (for guests' use or for the villa's private chef). There are atmospheric shaded verandas for lounging while watching the colourful fishing boats and spotting dolphins. The private courtyard garden with a large daybed and sun loungers is ideal for private sunbathing by day and al-fresco dining by night, surrounded by tropical plants, candles and inspiring lighting.
The villa is enhanced by sustainable design features, such as solar-powered electricity and hot water. Free WiFi, satellite TV, luxury bed linen, bathrobes, books/DVDs/games library, free bike hire and other family-friendly treats are just some of the facilities that come as standard.
Bougainvillea costs from INR9,000 (£90) for a double room or from INR18,000 (£180) for the whole villa per night, including breakfast and the services of the villa team. Lunch and dinner are available on request, according to requirements and the menu of the day. Vegetarian, meat/chicken or seafood options cost INR600-INR750/£6-£7.50 per person. Rates exclude 7.92 per cent tax. Extra beds for children aged five years and over (maximum two beds) cost from INR2,500 (£25) per night. Wellness Retreats will cost from INR 45,000 (£450) per person for a five-night stay, based on two sharing, including meals, accommodation and taxes. A special discount of 20 per cent is available for stays prior to 15 December.
