MANHATTAN BY SAIL

New Season Begins in April

New York, NY  - New York City's premier sailing company, serving over 60,000 customers per year, Manhattan By Sail, returns for another season beginning in April. Manhattan By Sail provides a wide range of public tours and private events throughout each season. Popular sails that will be returning for the 2016 season are Clipper Castaways, Lobster & Beer Lovers, Jazz, Burlesque, Champagne Brunch, and the specialty tasting sails that include Wine, Whiskey, & Craft Beer. New sails to be revealed during the spring of 2016.

Manhattan By Sail has a diverse fleet of ships and a corresponding myriad of options for any and all who want to experience the thrill of sailing in the world's greatest harbor. Clipper City is a modern replica of a 19th century cargo schooner; it's a 158-foot long sailboat with masts and rigging reaching up to 120 feet from the deck and a capacity of 134 passengers. The vessel features spacious decks, comfortable and ample seating with a full bar — making for an experience like no other for viewing New York's famous skyline. Clipper City recently moved to its new home in Battery Park last summer. The ship now docks at Slip 2, Battery Park at the southern-most tip of Manhattan Island. Clipper City features a bevy of sailing packages from craft beer tasting, lobster & beer lovers, burlesque, jazz, and more! Shearwater Classic Schooner has seen America through many historic moments. The ship was built exactly one month before the infamous stock market crash in 1929 and it operated as a submarine-hunting patrol ship in WWII. Shearwater also witnessed 9/11 while being docked near by the towers. In 2009, it was named a historic landmark and welcomes patrons aboard to share in its Gatsby-era story. Shearwater features packages such as wine tasting, champagne brunch, whiskey & chocolate tasting, and has a capacity of 49 passengers.

Last season Manhattan By Sail introduced an interactive pirate sail for the more adventurous type, called Clipper Castaways, which will be returning this season. Sip on pirate themed cocktails and enjoy the show as a cast of swashbuckling musicians, provocative pirates, and racy wenches take over the Clipper City Sail, having landlubbers feel like they are aboard the Black Pearl from the popular movie Pirates of the Caribbean with Captain Jack Sparrow.

"It's been a long winter and we can't wait to get back on the water." stated Tom Berton, Owner and Operator.

About Manhattan By Sail: Manhattan By Sail is New York City's premier sailing company. Manhattan By Sail provides a wide range of public tours and private events throughout each season, serving over 60,000 customers per year. Tom Berton founded Manhattan By Sail in 2001 as a result of his love for recreational sailing and his recognition of the full potential that New York's waterfront had to offer.

About Shearwater: Hand built in 1929 from native hardwoods, the 82-foot schooner Shearwater harkens back to a bygone era of yachting. New York City's only designated floating landmark, Shearwater has been taking New Yorkers and the city's visitors sailing in the harbor since 2001. Celebrating her 85th birthday last year, still going strong and sailing gracefully the Gatsby-era yacht comfortably accommodates up to 49 passengers.

About Clipper City: The newest and biggest addition to the fleet, the topsail schooner Clipper City, is a 158-foot long sailboat with masts and rigging reaching up 120 feet from the deck. A replica of the lumber-hauling schooners that drove America's industry more than a century ago, Clipper City was built in the mid-1980's using plans purchased from the Smithsonian. Designed with her new cargo in mind, her decks are spacious and comfortable, with ample seating, a full bar amidships and a raised quarter deck that allows for unparalleled views of the harbor.
