Malta - An Island Fit for a Queen

Ramblers Walking Holidays

The Queen and Prince Philip will visit Malta next month attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in the capital Valletta (27-29 November).  The Queen has a 'deep affection' for Malta where she lived for extended periods between 1949 and 1951 as a naval officer's wife, when the Duke was posted there with the Mediterranean Fleet.

The Royal couple's last visit to the island was in 2007 when they travelled there to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.   This 'regal island' is not only a firm favourite with the Queen but those who enjoy some of the finest guided walks in the southern Med.

Malta and its smaller sister island Gozo are prime examples with highlights includes a rich variety of country walking and ancient buildings; a tantalising history from the landing of St Paul through to the times of the Knights of St John to the modern epic of 'Gallant Malta' which was awarded the George Cross, after World War Two and the relatively 'undiscovered' Gozo with its wonderful vineyards, melon groves and renowned lace-making.

Price from £875 per person includes return flights, transfers, half-board, four-star accommodation and the services of a dedicated tour leader.  Departures from 23 February 2016.

And, for Ramblers who wish to 'stretch a leg' even further, one can combine Malta, Gozo and Montalbano's Sicily.  Their central position in the Mediterranean has made them the vortex of history with the Romans, Normans, Arabs, Spanish and other great powers having left their mark.

This three island adventure begins in Ragusa in Sicily's southeast corner  -  the stunning backdrop for the Inspector Montalbano series – and also embraces Scicli and Modica.

Malta and Gozo lie some fifty miles south of Sicily with their many 'attributes' already outlined above.

Price from £1,255 per person includes return flights, transfers, half-board accommodation at the four-star Mediterraneo Palace, Ragusa (5); four-star Hotel Calypso, Gozo and four-star Antonine Hotel & Spa (or four-star Perfola Club Hotel and Spa), Malta; a cooking demo and wine-tasting and the services of a dedicated tour leader.  Departures from 15 April 2016.
