Making Great Music
The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau Joins the World Renowned
Philadelphia Orchestra on Asia Tour
Philadelphia, PA – May 28, 2014 – Philadelphia's world-class arts, culture and entertainment offerings shine on the global stage as The Philadelphia Orchestra embarks on its 2014 tour of Asia and China residency. Traveling along with the Orchestra, the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) is accompanying the tour to promote Philadelphia as a global destination to audiences in China, Japan and Taiwan.
Over the course of three weeks, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the PHLCVB (along with other participating partners) will travel to cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tokyo and Taipei to perform for local audiences, meet with tourism officials and share the Philadelphia experience with international audiences. PHLCVB President & CEO Jack Ferguson, along with Brian Said, executive director of tourism will hold meetings with travel trade professionals and international members of the media to further share the message of Philadelphia as a city that is “here for the making” of world-class cultural adventures.
“This tour offers a chance for Philadelphia to shine on the world-stage while building valuable global ties between Philadelphia and major cities in Asia,” says Ferguson. “Philadelphia offers a wealth of cultural assets and performing arts and The Philadelphia Orchestra is a stellar example known around the world. We are proud to be a partner in the 2014 tour” he continued. The 2014 tour also celebrates the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.
For PHL as an international travel destination, Asia is a major focus for drawing increased visitation to the City. In 2013, the PHLCVB launched www.discoverPHL.cn, the first fully translated destination website built and hosted in China for the Chinese traveler. They also produce translated visitors guides in both simplified Chinese and Japanese for this audience.
