Currently in soft launch until Spring/Summer 2004, Aphrodite Hills offers a wide range of outstanding leisure amenities for tourists and residents alike. The heart of the resort development is near completion with the new village centre of bars, restaurants and shops scheduled to open early 2004. The village centre will also feature a chapel and an amphitheatre. The development schedule for Aphrodite Hills is as follows:
Aphrodite Hills first class golf facilities has been attracting players of all abilities for almost a year since the sport was launched at the resort in 2002. The golf course was designed by acclaimed course architect, Cabell Robinson. There is also a spacious clubhouse and golf academy.
The health spa opened one wing in September 2003 and is due to open fully early 2004.
The tennis academy also opened in September 2003 and due to open fully in early 2004.
The InterContinental Aphrodite Hills Resort Hotel is due to open in the summer of 2004, coinciding with EU membership by Cyprus. Among its many services, the Hotel will also feature extensive business and conferencing facilities.
This year Aphrodite Hills was selected by the British Olympic Association (BOA) for use as a training camp to help athletes to acclimatise prior to the Olympic Games in Greece in 2004. In the run-up to the Games in August, the British competitors will stay in the InterContinental Aphrodite Hills Resort. Up to 160 track and field athletes, cyclists and tennis players will be staying in apartments at the resort during a training session in May next year.
Aphrodite Hills is located close to the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, on the south west coast of the island in a beauty spot that is steeped in ancient history, culture and mythology. Preserving the natural environment remains a key consideration to the development of the resort. Aphrodite Hills occupies two elevated plateaux on either side of the Randidi Gorge, a natural ravine and public nature reserve. The resort is also surrounded by the Randi Forest which is protected by the Cyprus Governments Department of Forestry.
Bookings for Aphrodite Hills will be significantly boosted by 200 million worth of improvements to Paphos and Larnaca airports. GB Airways is also introducing a new scheduled flight from Gatwick and Heathrow to Paphos from Autumn this year.
Aphrodite Hills is a member of The World's Finest Resorts - a portfolio of exclusive, independent resorts, hotels and properties in some of the most desirable locations around the world. The accolade was presented alongside the Mercedes Benz International Property Awards for the Best Cypriot Development, 2001 (Gold) and 2002 (Platinum).
Cyprus, already home (or second home) to more than 60,000 Britons, has long been a popular choice with British travellers. Of the 2.8 million tourists visiting the island annually, it is estimated that 50 per cent are British. Visit www.aphroditehills.com for more information on the resort.
