The Spanish capital will host the COP25 climate summit in less than a month.

The 25th UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) will be taking place in Madrid, Spain from 2-13 December 2019. The summit will gather government representatives and figures such as Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate activist who is now sailing to Madrid from Virginia in the US to attend the climate conference.

For those looking for a hotel option with strong sustainability credentials in the Spanish capital, the 214-room VP Plaza España Design, located on Madrid's famous Gran Vía, has recently earned the prestigious Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification, solidifying its position in the city as an example for environmentally conscious design and operation. The 5-star hotel, which opened in March 2018, is one of the first properties in Madrid to achieve this accreditation.

LEED is an internationally recognised mark of excellence from the U.S. Green Building Council. It provides a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operation and maintenance solutions, and involves independent third-party verification that a building was designed and built using environmentally responsible strategies.
