Lyndey & Blair's Taste of Greece has spawned what will be an ongoing adventure of global cuisine. Lyndey's next offering Taste of Ireland, debuting on 7TWO on Sunday 27 January at 12:00noon, debunks the myth that Irish cuisine is just Irish stew and potatoes.
Lyndey, at her gregarious best, charms chefs, producers and a lord of the manor while exploring the surprising depths of Irish cuisine, amid the stunning scenery for which the Emerald Isle is famous.
"Contemporary Irish food is brimming with freshness, variety and quality and not to mention, largely organic. Surprisingly, until now, has been largely unexplored," notes Lyndey.
The first episode finds Lyndey in Belfast, home of the ill-fated Titanic, enjoying a first class dinner which was served on the fateful night the ship sank.
From there viewers are led on a wonderful trip across Ireland where Lyndey explores the various counties, meeting fascinating characters and chefs, visiting a series of markets, farms, famous restaurants and historic sites all the while cooking with local produce in unlikely breathtaking settings. She also learns to appreciate Irish whiskey!
Some highlights include Lyndey learning how to prepare 'spotted dog' from Darina Allen at the world-famous Ballymaloe Cooking School and encountering her daughter-in-law Rachel Allen, a TV chef and author in Episode 2.
Still in Episode 2 Lyndey goes fishing in Kinsale with Irish TV chef Martin Shanahan, where she catches mackeral and cooks it on the beach in sight of the historic Charles Fort.
Episode 3 finds her on Inishcorkish Island (locally known as Pig Island), home to the famous black pigs, before enjoying the craic (having a good time) with flautist Matt Malloy of The Chieftans.
A delightful afternoon tea is prepared at the Belle Isle Castle in Episode 4 while in Episode 5 Lyndey has a nourishing lunch of traditional Irish stew at a pub in the town of Waterford before visiting the world-renowned Waterford crystal headquarters.
In the last episode shot in Ireland Lyndey arrives at the bustling capital of Dublin and gets the low-down on the local food scene by Ireland's top food blogger, Donal Skehan, dubbed 'Ireland's answer to Jamie Oliver'.
"I think we have achieved a good mix of the warmth and generosity of the Irish people, the bounty of its produce, the passion of its chefs and the beauty and history of this unique country," concludes Lyndey.
