It's also a perfect excuse for a mid morning Austrian baked biscuit or afternoon patisserie and warm hot chocolate with lashings of cream.

On the hotel's doorstep, arguably some of the world's best skiing, attracts guests from the elite and famous alike looking for premium skiing in a sophisticated spacious setting. Its chic après ski is a glamorous affair, and appeals to those looking for spacious powder skiing and classy cool evenings.

The hotel Gotthard opens for its winter 2014/15 ski season from 5 December to 17 April 2015. A special Advent ski opening week package rate from 5 December -11 December will include:

Alternatively if some relaxation and tranquility appeals the hotel has a fabulous wellness area with pool and spa, making the perfect recipe for a lovely evening before indulging in the hotel's restaurant fine dining Austrian. For the non-skiers there are many activities, from cross country skiing, winter mountain walks to sledging or a day of relaxation at the hotel Gotthard's spa.

The resort now also has a new gondola connecting Lech and Zurs for the first time since last winter to Warth-Schröcken. The new 2km Auenfeldjet gondola, complete with heated seats, expands the mountain range by 50 per cent bringing the total piste of the newly combined ski area of Lech-Zürs and Warth-Schröcken to 190km, and Ski Arlberg 340km.

The marriage of Lech-Zürs to the high alpine Hochtannberg ski area takes it to an average snowfall to 11 metres, the snowiest region in the Alps. Lech-Zurs synonymous for its beautiful long powder descents, now has a new area for skiers to discover, until now only known by the locals.

The resort has played host to Royalty on many occasions and was film location for Bridget Jones's Diary: The Edge of Reason, but it has always maintained an understated relaxed pace, where even the most high profile of guests can relax and maintain their privacy.
