There’s a rosy hue to the Santam Swartland Wine and Olive Route Farmer’s market on Saturday October 5 when the winemakers offer their award-winning pink wines as part of the delicious tastes on offer. Since this month is Breast Cancer month the pink aspect is very appropriate.
A day of country feasting brought to the City - the perfect invitation to make future plans to travel the route for an instant stress reliever.
This largely un-spoilt and geographically diverse region offers the best in country hospitality. With 22 vineyards to visit along a route stretching from the undulating hills of the Paardeberg in the south to the rolling waters of the Berg River in the north, the award winning wines benefit from the cool sea breezes sweeping in from the West Coast.
Grab a bottle of Merlot as you enjoy spit-braai lamb as only the Swartlanders know how to make it. Or savour a Chenin with olives and bread as you relax under the trees at the Kirstenbosch Stone Cottages.
Share a glass (or two) and delve into country fare. The produce on offer is tantalizingly tempting and visitors can choose from crunchy olives, jams, pickles and preserves, local cheeses, biltong and more – mouth wateringly delicious and all making the most of the this abundant region.
Even pampering the body gets a look in as olive body products bring another excuse to indulge.
While it is only an hour’s drive from the City there is something immensely satisfying about meeting the people of the area in our own backyard, meeting the farmers who share their products with lashings of love and good humour and seeing the wine poured, the produce plated and settling back on a warm spring day to enjoy the bounty of the Swartland.
