Despite what you may think, you don't need to go overseas to have a great holiday. In fact sometimes, the best things are right on your doorstep. Spectacular hikes, coastal views, Aboriginal culture and first-rate gastronomic experiences are all part of the package with luxury hiking specialist, Hedonistic Hiking, who still has a couple of places free on the October (23-29) tour of the South West Coast and the Grampians. While interstate travel remains challenging, a Hedonistic Hiking tour is an ideal break for Victoria residents.
Highlights of the tour include hiking on the recently-completed final new section of the Grampians Peaks Trail, a private tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Budj Bim, and dinner at the highly-acclaimed Wickens at Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld, home to one of Australia's finest working kitchen gardens and an award-winning wine cellar.
The level 3 tour explores the remote far southwest coastal region, known as 'the birthplace of Victoria', before continuing on to the dramatic mountains of the Southern Grampians. Hike in coastal forests, along cliff paths, and up a rocky ascent to the summit of Mount Sturgeon (Wurgarri). There are glimpses of seals at an ocean-facing picnic and the opportunity to learn about a culture that is over 60,000 years old on a private tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Budj Bim, with an indigenous guide.
As with all Hedonistic Hiking tours, exceptional food and wine play a major part of the trip. Enjoy a bush tucker lunch prepared by the Budj Bim rangers, superb picnic lunches and a final dinner at the Wickens at The Royal Mail in Dunkeld. Accommodation for the first 3 nights is in a charming heritage bluestone coastal guesthouse, and for the last 3, at the restored colonial Mount Sturgeon Homestead on the Royal Mail estate in Dunkeld.
Prices: the tour costs AUD$3495 per person, based on two sharing, inclusive of 6 nights' accommodation, all activities, and picnic lunches and gastronomic dinners with wine, with www.hedonistichiking.com. No payment will be taken until lockdown restrictions are lifted.
