Longueville Manor Launch Refurbished Cottage Suite for the Family Market

Longueville Manor

Longueville Manor, a Relais & Châteaux AA Five Red Star hotel in Jersey, has invested in a stunning refurbishment of its Cottage Suite in time for the upcoming busy summer season. The buoyant family tourism market has encouraged the hotel owners to create a luxury 'home away from home' for visitors to enjoy.

The charming 500-year-old cottage perfectly marries the contemporary with the traditional. Original features include giant oak beams, which are thought to come from a Tudor warship, and an oversized Jersey granite fireplace. The charming interior is complemented by state-of-the-art technology with Wi-Fi throughout and an integrated sound system. Organic linens, pure wools, bronze wall lights and linen shades are all included in the finished suite to ensue a sense of pure luxury.

Clifford Wilding Design was commissioned to provide the concept for the new cottage. The colour scheme took inspiration from the surrounding gardens and from the fabrics in Vanessa Arbuthnott's wildflower and woodland collections. The warm colour palette upstairs is raspberry and stone whereas downstairs features sage green and grape with plenty of neutrals throughout.

An important part of the project brief was to ensure that natural products were used to echo Longueville's ethos of green living and organic life. A cream herringbone fabric was used for the curtains in the living room from Ian Mankin, a UK company making organic linens. Upholstery and cushion fabrics in plaids and paisleys were used from Abraham Moon, a long established UK company renowned for traditional values of quality and design and specialising in pure wools. Additionally, the clay and off-white coloured paints were supplied by the Little Greene Company, favoured by Clifford Wilding for their environmentally friendly water based paints.

The cottage has already received a multitude of bookings, predominantly from the family market. At Longueville Manor, children can enjoy their own programme of activities including family nature trails, tennis lessons, cookery classes and much more. 'Little needs' are also catered for as parents can pre-order supplies for their young children from the hotel rather than carrying extra luggage. The refurbished cottage now offers the perfect base for any family group to enjoy, explore and relax.

Patricia Lewis, Proprietor, Longueville Manor, commented:

'We wanted to update the cottage to give it a lighter more contemporary feel but to retain a traditional country house style consistent with the rest of the hotel. The cottage has been completely refreshed to make it one of our most luxurious suites. With two rooms, a lounge and separate dining room, it really is the perfect place for a family stay and also for couples or groups who appreciate a luxurious but homely space.'

Laura Clifford, Interior Designer, Clifford Wilding Design added:

'The finished scheme is an inviting combination of contemporary and traditional with pretty botanical prints on organic linens, and an earthy colour palette of clays, stone and sage with raspberry and grape accents for warmth. It was important that the cottage, although separate from the main hotel, was treated as an integral part of Longueville Manor. It needed to have the same attention to quality and style and be in keeping with the hotel brand. The newly designed cottage is now a home from home for families and groups visiting the Island.'
