RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO – May 26, 2026. Lomas Hospitality has implemented a privately funded anti-sargassum barrier system at Destino Maroma, reinforcing coastal protection efforts around Palafitos Overwater Bungalows and El Dorado Maroma. The initiative reflects the company's ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism and delivering the high-quality beach experience guests expect from one of the Mexican Caribbean's most recognized destinations.
As one of the few resorts in the region operating its own anti-sargassum barrier system, Lomas Hospitality continues to invest proactively in solutions that preserve its natural surroundings while enhancing the guest experience.
Installed along the coastline of Maroma, Riviera Maya, Mexico, the barrier system supports beach maintenance and helps minimize sargassum arrival along the shoreline. It strengthens the destination's response to evolving coastal conditions throughout the year.
In addition to the barrier system, the destination implements responsible sargassum management, including ongoing collection and proper disposal by providers complying with local environmental regulations. This reduces impact on coastal ecosystems, supports appropriate beach conditions, and reinforces an operational approach aligned with sustainable tourism and environmental best practices.
“Protecting the natural environment surrounding our destinations is an essential part of delivering the level of experience our guests expect from us.” said Sammantha Frachey, Vice Chairwoman of the Board and CEO of Lomas Hospitality. “This privately funded initiative reflects a long-term commitment to preventive action, operational responsibility, and continued investment in the destinations that define our hospitality offering.”
Palafitos Overwater Bungalows and El Dorado Maroma are recognized for their close integration with the surrounding natural environment. The anti-sargassum barrier further reinforces Lomas Hospitality's approach, where sustainability, operational responsibility, and guest experience are deeply interconnected.
