Live Music Capital of the World® Lives up to Reputation

Visit Austin

AUSTIN, TX - With nearly 200 live music venues cranking out tunes day and night, and the annual South By Southwest Music Festival® (SXSW®) underway, Austin is living up to its reputation as the Live Music Capital of the World®. Year round, and especially this month, the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) brings music to the masses.

The ACVB's office of music marketing recently released its annual compilation Austin Music, Volume 11. This CD features 13 diverse tracks of both established and up-and-coming Austin artists. The CD comes with a 40-page guide specifically designed to help visitors navigate the live music scene.

Two pop-up parties introducing Austin Music, Volume 11 were held at SXSW®. ACVB partnered with the City of Austin to bring conference-goers to Austin's Living Room – a place to relax, learn about Austin and listen to some killer live music performed by local artists like Wild Child, Lex Land & Ariel Abshire all featured on Volume 11. Attendees will also hear from other artists such as Nakia, contestant from NBC's The Voice, Candace Bellamy and La Guerrilla when they play at the free Music Gear Expo at the Austin Convention Center in front of the Bureau's new Austin Airstream – a mobile Visitor Center which launched earlier this month. The Airstream is a rolling tribute to the Live Music Capital of the World® and serves as a VIP lounge for media, musicians and meeting planners. The trailer's interior has been enhanced by woodwork from Collings Guitar and is equipped with Gibson branded bar stools. The CVB plans to use the CD and the Airstream as promotional tools to entertain and educate people about Austin's iconic music culture.

Austin's eclectic music scene will rock throughout the year with live performances from artists featured on Austin Music, Volume 11. The musicians will play mini live sets at The Wine Down music series returning to the front porch of ACL Live at The Moody Theater. The free series runs for ten consecutive Wednesdays this spring.

“These efforts are just a few of the ways the CVB is working to bring live music to visitors around the world,” said Rose Reyes, director of music marketing for the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau.
