HISTORIC HIGHLIGHTS: Originally part of a 1710 land grant from King George II through his Lords Proprietors to Thomas Hepworth, encompassing thousands of acres from the Atlantic Ocean to the Waccamaw River. The current Plantation House was built circa 1740 and deeded with land to early settlers John and Peter Simons by their father in 1794. In 1796, Dr. John Tucker of Georgetown bought the estate and began a family rice-planting tradition that lasted until Daniel Tucker, last in the line to own the plantation, sold it in 1897. Alternate farming methods and catastrophic storms in the 1890s ended the local rice-farming culture. Dr. Henry Norris bought the estate in the 1920s and made many changes in the house. It was subsequently purchased by the Price family of Greensboro, N.C. Louise Parsons inherited it in 1966 and began an ongoing process of historic restoration, improvement and development.

PRIMARY FEATURES: Antique wrought iron gates in a brick privacy wall open to a quarter-mile avenue of 250-year-old live oaks draped with Spanish moss. At the end of the drive is the Plantation House, approximately 4500 square feet on two floors. Left of the house is the recreated Carriage House, a 10,000 square foot dining room and meeting facility built in the 1970s in Lowcountry Carolina style. To the right of the house is a large swimming pool and cabana overlooking the 400-acre rice fields and spectacular sunsets. Also on the 600-acre grounds are tennis courts and a marina connected to the Intracoastal Waterway. Plantation guests also have access to its three-story oceanfront beach clubhouse. Numerous golf courses, many designed by golf's leading experts, are in the immediate area known as the Grand Strand.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Currently 35 guest rooms on the Plantation, the original Plantation House, a luxurious Guest House and cypress-clad cottages are being increased by on-going remodeling. Interiors include fireplaces, sitting rooms, private writing areas with views of scenic natural creeks, libraries, artworks and antiques form around the world. Meeting and dining possibilities in the Carriage House Club for small groups are virtually unlimited. Audiovisual, teleconferencing and other electronic equipment can be provided.
