24th May from 2-7pm, The Last Jar, in ode to the annual Galway International Oyster and seafood festival, will host an Annual Oyster Festival and Chef Shuck Off.

A partnership through the ages, Irish seafood festivals and oysters are like the Irish and Guinness - well acquainted.

The 2014 Oyster Festival will provide an abundance of both and at $2 an oyster, $6 a pint and with no entry fee, there is ample opportunity for guests to acquaint themselves thoroughly.

Sample Tasmanian and South Australian Pacific Oysters and Sydney Rock Oysters served natural, Kilpatrick or Guinness battered enjoying hearty harmonic throat of The Drunken Poachers and the musical stylings of Dan Bourke and Paul Quinn.

Between lively gigs, oysters and free flowing refreshments, some of Melbourne's top chefs will go head-to-head in a battle of speed and precision in the annual shucking competition.

If oysters aren't your style, a full range of foodie options will be available from Tim Sweeny's acclaimed Irish fusion menu.

Live entertainment and entry to the festival is free of charge. Oysters will be available for $2 each and Guinness at $6 per pint. A wide selection of other food and beverage items will also be available on the day.

Owned and operated by Siobhan Dooley and head Chef Tim Sweeney, The Last Jar is everything you won't see in a run of the mill Irish-Pub franchise full of Gaelic clichés.

Tim Sweeney's draws inspiration and techniques from his time under Michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay and Rick Stein's to create a feast of traditional Irish fare. All the produce used in-house is fresh, locally sourced and the majority of the items on the menu – from the hand-churned butter to the dark soda bread, are handmade in-house daily.

The hearty menu is perfectly complemented by the welcoming pub setting complete with open fireplace the perfect place for a warming whiskey and to take respite from Melbourne's Irish weather.
